Although the AMA Supercross championship was recently postponed until further notice, there was some hope – although growing fainter by the day – that we would see Supercross in some form at one of the last rounds, with much of that hope pinned on Las Vegas. Those now appear dashed.
The venues for both Las Vegas and Salt Lake Supercross are now giving refunds for ticket holders. Although Feld has not yet officially axed those events.
Here’s the statement on the UNLV website: “Due to the increasing spread of COVID-19 and expanding restrictions on domestic and international travel, and in accordance with national state and local governments prohibiting large group gatherings, the 2020 Monster Energy AMA Supercross scheduled for April 25, 2020 has been cancelled.
“A full refund of all fees and charges will be issued to your credit card used for purchase. If you have any additional questions or concerns, contact UNLVtickets by email at customer.service@unlvtickets.com.”
The note on Smithstix ticket website is interesting: “The 2020 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, is now scheduled to complete rounds 11-17 later this year. The race locations and dates have not been finalized.
“Due to this change, the Monster Energy Supercross finale that was scheduled for May 2 at Rice-Eccles Stadium has been cancelled.”
Like MXGP, could we see the back half of 2020 loaded with Supercross racing? We’ll have to wait and see.
