Red Bull KTM’s Antonio Cairoli claimed the overall victory in pietramurata on home soil, as well as the moto two win in the MXGP class.

Cairoli was back on form for the second moto of the day in Italy, with a huge Fox Holeshot and opening lap lead a head of Monster Energy Yamaha’s Jeremy Seewer, Red Bull KTM’s Jorge Prado, Honda rider Benoit Paturel, Monster Energy Yamaha’s Glenn Coldenhoff and Jeffrey Herlings in sixth place.

With just one point separating Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Romain Febvre and Jeffrey Herlings going into the second moto, after Herlings suffered a DNF in the first moto after a start crash, which allowed the frenchman to bag some well earned championship points.

Jeffrey soon makes light work of cutting through the pack as HRC Honda’s Tim Gajser followed closely behind as he made the pass on Prado on lap two, to move up into fourth place. Gajser then made the pass on Prado, as Febvre started making a few mistakes trying to also pass the KTM rider.

More bad luck for the spaniard as Prado and Standing Construct GasGas rider Pauls Jonas come together at the bottom of the hills, which lead to Prado pulling in due to a race one back injury.

Herlings still on the charge right up to the end of the second moto, but it was Cairoli who took the race win and the overall, followed by Tim Gajser and Romain Febvre. There is still only one point separating Herlings and Febvre heading into this weekends Garda round.
