HRC Honda’s Tim Gajser missed out on first overall today at Matterley Basin for round two of the MXGP World Championship, finishing just behind Red Bull KTM rider Antonio Cairoli.

Despite missing out on the overall win by just two points, Gajser extended his championship lead and seemed pretty positive post race.

“It was a good sunday of racing, I’ve really enjoyed it,” said Gajser. “This year they prepared the track a little differently, it wasn’t so rough in the first race, so the pace was very similar in the top three riders so it was difficult to pass.

“In the second race the track was much better, there was more line choices, and also with Tony being behind me it was nice to have a good race. I managed to pass on the last lap so that was really good for me.

Speaking about heading to Maggiora next weekend with the championship lead, Gajser said “Maggiora is historical, so I’m really looking forward to heading there next week. Hopefully the weather will be nice so we will have some good races for sure.”
