Red Bull KTM Overall round eight winner Jeffrey Herlings shot to victory in the opening MXGP moto in Afyon in Turkey this wednesday.
Red Bull KTM team mates Jorge Prado and Jeffrey Herlings fly through the first corner together for the first MXGP moto in Afyon, with the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Romain Febvre thrown in between them both during the opening lap. Herlings then made a huge mistake getting cross rutted and jumped off track, which meant he lost his momentum chasing down Febvre.
Red Bull KTM Antonio Cairoli continues his aggressive riding style from sunday, and dives up the inside of Standing Construct GasGas Pauls Jonass, and then dived up the inside of Monster Energy Yamaha’s Jeremy Sewer only for him to highside on the start straight.
With Prado making a mistake and crashing out of the front of the pack, this allowed Febvre and HRC Honda’s Tim Gajser to fly through followed by Jeffrey Herlings with all three of them chasing each other down over the dragon’s back as with two laps to go Cairoli joins the party as the four riders scrap it out towards the end of the race.
It came right down to the wire on the last few corners of the race, as Febvre couldn’t handle the pressure and tucked the front, allowing Herlings to claim the moto one win followed by his team mate Cairoli by 0.45 of a second.
