Monster Yamaha’s Jago Geerts will travel to Orlyonok for the MXGP season opener in Russia despite suffering a knee injury on Sunday while racing in France.

The 21-year-old Belgian suffered a minor setback when he twisted his left knee at Erne but after much thought and a detailed medical examination, Geerts has decided to race and collect as many points as possible.

ā€œIā€™m looking forward to the first round in Russia. I had a good winter prep this year. We worked a lot on the bike and we made some positive changes which Iā€™m happy about,” said Geerts.

“So, my feeling on the bike is good and Iā€™m really motivated to start the season. I did pick up a small injury last weekend, but my physiotherapist is positive and believes it is possible for me to ride, so I will be on the line and Iā€™m excited to race.ā€
