Yamaha Motor Europe is delighted to have a record 286 young riders sign up to the 2020 YZ bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup across the YZ65, YZ85 and YZ125 classes. The number of national championships bLU cRU riders will participate in has also increased from 17 to 21, as Yamaha continues to expand its pool of talent across the continent.
The bumper entry list comes after a highly successful 2019 YZ bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup, which culminated in 100 of Europeā€™s most promising youngsters joining the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in Assen for the bLU cRU SuperFinale.
This year, the competition is even tougher and the race to join the YZ bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup SuperFinale at the prestigious FIM MXoN in ErnƩe (France) on 25-27 September will certainly be one to watch throughout the 2020 campaign. In each class, 40 of the best-performing riders will be invited to the historic ErnƩe venue, where they will have the chance to compete on the same weekend as their MXGP and MX2 heroes.
As was the case in 2019, the top three finishers of each SuperFinale race, as well as two wildcard riders, will automatically be invited to the highly esteemed bLU cRU Masterclass event at the end of the year. The winner of the 125, 85 and 85 categories in the Masterclass will have the fantastic opportunity to earn support from Yamaha Motor Europe next year, following in the footsteps of last yearā€™s winners: Mairis Pumpurs (YZ125), who now races for the MJC Yamaha Official EMX125 Team, as well as Dex Kooiker (YZ85), and Freddie Bartlett (YZ65).
At the bLU cRU Masterclass, both road and off-road riders will receive expert tuition from bLU cRU ambassadors, with guidance from official riders. After three days of training, one YZ125 rider will join Yamahaā€™s Official EMX125 Team in 2021, contesting the full EMX125 championship, with the winners of the 65 and 85 classes earning valuable support from Yamaha.
Yamaha will also continue to monitor the developing Covid-19 situation and their priority is always to ensure their riders, fans and their families are safe.
Yamaha Motor Europe bLU cRU Racing Manager, Alberto Barozzi: “Since 2015, the bLU cRU programme has given an opportunity to 787 riders, enabling them to showcase their talent onboard our powerful two-stroke YZ line-up. In five years we have had great contact with the youngsters and their parents, and it has been a fantastic experience where we shared our expert knowledge through the bLU cRU ambassadors, helping them towards the next step and eventually onto the international stage.
“It has been a great educational programme with the bLU cRU working alongside the national championships to focus on rider development.
“2020 will be a new challenge, and we are so excited to support this next stage in association with our great partners, FIM Europe and its MXGP Academy, who like us are committed to developing the sport and giving new generations the opportunity to progress. It will be a superb season for all of our registered riders and their parents.”
