MXGP Trentino: Papenmeier wins WMX overall GP

Yamaha racing 423 rider Larissa Papenmeier shot to overall victory in Trentino with a moto one win, and a second in the second moto.

Pepenmier grabs her second Fox Holeshot ahead of newly crowned WMX Champion Courtney Duncan, followed by GasGas’s Kiara Fontanesi sitting in third for the opening laps of the second moto.

Fontanesi goes down out and crashes of third place clipping the back wheel of Courtney Duncan, dropping her down to thirteenth position, which meant the Italian had her work cut out to push back through the pack to secure third place in the championship.

Duncan then made the move up into the lead, and followed by Papenmeier and Husqvarna rider Lynn Valk, as Fontanesi struggles sitting down in eighth position with five minutes left in the moto.

Courtney Duncan goes on to win the second moto, followed by Papenmeier and Nancy Van Der Van, which meant Papenmeier took the overall result for the day followed by Duncan in second and Van de Van in third.

Fontanesi managed to cling onto third in the championship however, with Van De Van claiming second, and Duncan claiming her third world title.
