Ceres 71 Racing Yamaha rider Nancy Van de Van claimed her first WMX moto win of the season at the MXGP of Spain, ahead of Bike It Kawasaki’s Courtney Duncan.
Van de van holeshots the first WMX moto of the day at the dry Arroyomolinos circuit, and leads early on in the moto for a few laps before getting passed by GasGas’s Kiara Fontanesi. Bike It Kawasaki’s current world champion Courtney Duncan goes down trying to make the pass on Van De Van which she eventually does, and starts to close the gap on the Italian.
With the competition between Duncan and Fontanesi coming quite close this season, Duncan cleans out Fontanesi completely on one of the corners to claim the lead, despite Fontanesi remounting and trying to close the gap being fifteen seconds behind.
Duncan then has a huge crash on the start straight trying to pull a tear off and goes over the bars, which allows Van de Van to take the lead and claim her first race win of the season. Fontanesi however manages to pull the gap back on Duncan, but just couldn’t quite make the pass with them both finishing up in second and third.
