With his dream of a 10th world title to equal Stefan Evertsā record over for another year, Sicilian superstar Tony Cairoli (Red Bull KTM) now faces a tough fight at the final round of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship to hold onto second in the series standings.
A crash in the first moto at yesterdayās MXGP of Pietramurata that dropped him out of second didnāt help his cause and he was desperately unlucky that moto two was red-flagged after heād grabbed the holeshot.
As a result, Swiss rider Jeremy Seewer (Monster Energy Yamaha) ā who ran 1-3 to take 14 points out of Cairoliās advantage over him ā is now just four points behind.
āPhysically it was a bit tricky,ā said Cairoli. āIn the first moto I made a good start and was riding smooth until I made that mistake. That wasnāt good from me and especially finishing sixth because [Jeremy] Seewer was in front.
āI started well again in the second moto but then we had to restart. I was fourth at the third start and [Clement] Desalle passed me. I was wary of the track being very slick. I wasnāt ready to attack and so settled for fifth. The goal now is to stay in front of Seewer at the last round and take second in the championship.ā
