The DRT Monster Energy team leader talks exclusively to DBR about next year’s global team clash…

Even though it’s still 11 months away the 2017 Motocross of Nations at Matterley Basin is already on the mind of DRT Kawasaki’s Tommy Searle who sees it as his last chance to represent Team GB on home soil in the world team classic.

“It’s a year away but I’m already really excited about it because everything comes around so quickly,” enthuses Tommy. “Matterley is an event that I need to be at because the chances are that there’s not going to be another British Des Nations during my career. We had it in 2006 – which was my first Des Nations – and then the last time was 2008. I definitely won’t be doing it in another nine years!

“Potentially it’s going to be the best motocross event there’s ever been. You’ve got Steve Dixon – who’s a bit of a nut job – promoting it and he’s looking to make everything better and is gonna do stuff that nobody has ever done before. I think he’ll pull it off too and I really want to be a part of it when he does.”

“It gives me great pleasure to have the opportunity to bring this prestigious race not only back to the UK but back to Matterley Basin – a venue that was built to host this monumental race in 2006,” adds Dixon. “The 2006 edition was similar to the Glastonbury of motocross with memories staying strong for both good and bad reasons – the racing, streakers, traffic, rain, sunshine. The circuit has since hosted six successful international events that have seen the quality of racing remain the same while improving year on year in every area. My aim for 2017 is for the rider to enjoy the track and for the fans, traders, staff, sponsors, guests, volunteers to experience a phenomenal weekend of racing and atmosphere come rain or shine.”
