Tommy Searle will make his long-awaited return to racing this weekend. But it’s not where you would expect.
Tommy Gun’s season got off to the worst possible start when he banged up his knee in pre-season while in sunny California. The injury meant he would miss the Areancross Tour he’d signed up for, and as each passing round of the MXGP season clicked off we all began to realise his injury was much worse than first thought.
The reigning British champion has now missed eight rounds of the world motocross series and four outings have gone by without the champ lining up at the gate to defend his crown in the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship.
We’ve been told that will finally change this weekend as he returns to competition. But it won’t be in Ernee, France where the world’s elite race on Sunday. In fact, Tommy will be at our local track in Preston as Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki team boss explains. “We have decided that Tommy will ease his way back into racing in the UK,” said Steve Dixon. “He will race the Pirelli Masters at Preston Docks this weekend, then the Michelin MX Nationals at Hawkstone and the Desertmartin Maxxis.”
Searle is now expected to make his Grand Prix return at the MXGP of Lombardia, at Ottobiano in Italy on June 25.
