Monster Star Yamaha’s 250SX points leader Colt Nichols grabbed a podium finish at the final Indianapolis Supercross round after fighting his way back from a first-lap crash.

Nichols looked to be on course for another victory as he launched into the lead at the start but unfortunately went down before the tabletop and rejoined at the back of the field.

Although he had his work cut out for him, Nichols put his head down and worked his way through the pack to fifth. Before the halfway mark, he was locked in a battle for fourth.

With a few minutes remaining, it became a three-way battle for the final podium spot. Nichols made the pass for fourth with three laps to go and then took third the following lap and held onto it to the finish line.

ā€œThereā€™s not really much to say, I guess. It started out about as good as it could, though. I got a great start and was in the lead,” said Nichols.

“I donā€™t even know what happened, to be honest. I just came out of that turn, and all of a sudden, I was on the face of the tabletop looking backward. It was just a big mistake.

“I canā€™t really give that away, but thatā€™s racing. Thatā€™s why we line up. Itā€™s frustrating for sure because I felt like I was on it today, and I did everything right after that point. Itā€™s all right, though. Weā€™ll regroup.

” I dug down deep all the way to the finish. I kept fighting and came back to third, so Iā€™m happy with that. I just canā€™t make those silly mistakes. Iā€™m looking for some redemption in seven days. Weā€™ll try again.ā€
