Steve Holcombe, a regular Dirt Bike Rider magazine columnist, is one of the standout performers at the opening two rounds of the 2016 EnduroGP World Championship. The young British pilot heads to round three in Grevena, Greece this weekend where he’s looking to continue the form that has put him within five points of the overall lead for the EnduroGP championship.
Even though it’s only his second season of world championship competition Holcombe is confident of building on his strong championship start and Enduro 3 title aspirations. “I can’t wait to get started at the GP of Greece,” says Holcombe. “I feel a lot more settled ahead of this race than I did before the first round in Morocco, but in many ways nothing’s changed.”
Sitting 13 points clear at the head of the Enduro 3 championship, Holcombe is also joint second in the overall EnduroGP series and just five points behind leader Matt Phillips.
“Like always my goal is just to do as well as I can,” added Holcombe. “I really want to continue to show that I can fight for the Enduro 3 title, which I believe I can do now. I wasn’t expecting the first two races to go as well as they did, but I’m not getting too carried away with those results.
“It’s still my first year of senior class competition and I still have a lot to learn and experience. Leading the Enduro 3 championship is certainly a new experience. With the Greek event being in a new place I’m looking forward to seeing what the race is like. The tests look good, especially the enduro test, so I’m looking forward to it. The weather might be a little mixed, but that’s ok for me. I had a great time in Greece last year, so I hope things will go well again.”
The GP of Greece features an enduro test that took riders more than three hours to walk. The event starts today Friday, May 20 with the Friday night prologue.
