Shaun Simpson’s season has taken another blow with the news that he’s sustained arm and elbow fractures in the FIM World Motocross Championship Qualifying Race at Ottobiano.

The former British champion was caught up in a first turn yard sale crash at the Italian circuit and although he quickly got up on his feet, he was clearly in pain as he held his left arm. We understand the 29-year-old Scot will undergo surgery with Dr. Claes in Herentals today.

We interviewed Shaun before the Lombardia Qualifying Race and he revealed how he’d been lucky to avoid a much longer lay-off with his broken hand. But now the luckless rider is facing around an eight-week lay-off from racing.
