Shaun Simpson is the star turn when Wednesday evening motocross returns to the spectacular Cwmythig Hill circuit near Rhayader in Mid-Wales on May 29.

Once a regular stop-off for some of the worldā€™s best riders, the stunning hillside track at St Harmon is the base for this yearā€™s PAR Homes/Bodenham Enterprise Park-sponsored Welsh Open Motocross Championship.

As well as the speedy Scot, former evening MX champion Brad Anderson will be in action alongside riders including Taylor Hammal, Ryan Houghton, Charlie Putnam and Joel Rizzi.

Jonny Groves of Shape nā€™ Scape has been busy giving the track a huge facelift including a downhill ski jump, wall of death berm and the infamous 65ft finish line tabletop jump as well as a new rhythm section and massive 125ft uphill triple jump.

Practice starts at 5.45pm with the first race getting under way an hour later. Classes are for Pro/Expert, Seniors/Veterans and Juniors/Beginners with each group getting three races before the big-money Grand Final at the end of the night for the top 125cc, 250F and Open Expert riders.

The circuit, virtually the whole of which can be seen from any vantage point, also has a full trackside public address system so the expected 4,000-plus spectators can hear informed commentary from Chris Czora and Leah Yarranton.

There will be trade stands, good catering facilities, licensed bar, a Tarmac drive into the circuit with excellent hard parking and permanent toilets ā€“ everything, in fact, for the family to enjoy a good nightā€™s entertainment.

Entry fee is just Ā£5 for adults with no charge for children under 14. For more details go to www.rdmcc.co.uk
