After heavy rain forced a two-week postponement, the opening round of the 2012 Red Bull Pro Nationals is all set to kick off under summery South West skies at Landrake Moto Parc this weekend (May 12/13).
“I was there last weekend and I reckon if we’d been running then we’d have had to water the track,” says Matt Bates, boss of series promoters Events 22. “Who’d have believed it after the washout we could have suffered at the end of last month.”
The MX1 and MX2 pro classes feature some of the biggest names in UK and world racing including GP winners Stephen Sword, Marc de Reuver, Gert Krestinov and Nico Aubin. You can also expect strong performances from the likes of Jason Dougan, Martin Barr, Nev Bradshaw, Kristian Whatley and Graeme Irwin.
But while the pros will be setting the fastest lap times this weekend, the real stars of the show are the mini warriors of the Red Bull Elite Youth Cup. The EYC series is the top ranking youth championship in the UK and at Landrake you’ll get the chance to see the stars of tomorrow banging bars. Add to that a big dose of old-school action with the British 2-Stroke Championship races and the fully family-friendly KidZone and it all adds up to a great weekend of on and off-track action.
“It was tremendously disappointing to have to postpone the original opening date,” adds Matt, “but now that disappointment has been replaced by a sense of excitement that the 2012 Red Bull Pro Nationals – plus of course the British 2-Stroke Championship and Red Bull Elite Youth Cup – are about to take off this weekend!”
