The 16th round of the 2015 FIM Motocross World Championship is slated to take place in Brazil in mid-August but there are rumours circulating that the event still needs confirmation of support from the government of the state of Goias for the race to return to the new (and popular) Trindade circuit for a second year.

The Romagnolli group has been charged with the organisation of the Grand Prix since MXGP successfully returned to the country in 2009 and has been held in two venues in the southern state of Santa Catarina previously thanks to the promoter’s positive relationship with the local government (Santa Catarina was one of the states that did not have to worry about the financial implications of staging the 2014 World Cup).

Goias hosted MXGP for the first time for the penultimate round of the campaign last summer and the jumpy and wide track was largely a hit with the riders. Trindade is located a short distance west of the city of Goiana; a place where a permanent motorsport circuit entertained MotoGP (then 500cc) in the late ’80s and recently had an overhaul in an attempt to entice the road racing competition back to the area.

Sources in Brazil have indicated that Carlinhos Romagnolli has recently met with the authorities and long-term Governor Marconi Perillo, so a resolution to the issue of financial backing could soon be forthcoming.

Last year MXGP endured an extended August break after the Grand Prix of Ukraine was cancelled due to the civil and social problems that emerged in the region. The Grand Prix of Brazil has been one of the most popular, atmospheric and organised MXGP fixtures since the start of the decade and the Romagnolli group have received FIM prizes and recognition for their work.
