Dirt Bike Rider is Ottobiano this weekend for the 11th round of the 2017 FIM World Motocross Championship and we hit the pits to get predictions for the FIAT Professional FULLBACK MXGP of Lombardia in Italy.
Ottobiano is a manmade sand track with lots of jumps and soft, powdery sand, but the real difference could be the heat. The temperature hit 39 °C (102 F) yesterday and aren’t forecast to be any cooler over the weekend.
This weekend’s MXGP is set to be a classic. With Cairoli holding the points lead, Herlings getting better every weekend, Desalle on a roll, Febvre coming back to form, Gajser and Simpson returning as well as Tonus and Paulin on their game. The action should be as hot as the temperature.
MX2 is equally strong with Pauls Jonass leading but the rest of the top 10 are capable of winning.
We asked a team manager, a racer and a trainer for their predictions for the top three in MXGP and MX2. Here’s what they said.
Hitachi KTM Team Manager, Ian Browne
For MX2 I’m going Jonass, Leiber and Prado.
In MXGP Cairoli, Herlings then there’s about four or five – but I’ll say, Desalle.
EMX300 red plate holder, Brad Anderson
In MXGP, Cairoli, Herlings, Gajser. I always go for Cairoli – he’s amazing doing what he does.
For MX2 Jonass, Leiber and Olsen.
MX trainer, Justin Morris
In MXGP I’m going for Desalle, Cairoli and Febvre.
In MX2 I’m going for Jonass, Covington, Seewer.
So it looks like the consensus is Jonass in MX2 for the win and TC222 for the victory in MXGP.
