Youthstream rumoured to be looking at adding more overseas events to the Grand Prix calendar…

The third Grand Prix of Thailand this weekend could be the final springboard for MXGP to entertain the possibility of more trips to Asia, even as early as the 2016 campaign. Nakhonchaisri is a new venue for the event after two years at the fast and well-received Si Racha facility and will fill the last commitment in a three year contract with promoters Youthstream.

Nakhonchaisri is likely to be assessed with a view towards more Thai GPs but Youthstream claim there is already interest from ‘neighbours’ Indonesia and Malaysia for MXGP to travel around the continent. Representatives from the promoters are set to fly to Malaysia on Monday for talks.

Heading east with the series has become a more attractive proposition in the past two years than looking west and to the Americas. Brazil cancelled their slot on the 2015 calendar this summer after being an integral part of the schedule since 2009. Although Argentina has come in and is apparently the most popular territory in terms of the MXGP social media fanbase in spite of the lack of a top Argentine rider in the series and a Grand Prix in the country this century.

Youthstream are currently considering a number of options for the vacant date of August 16 with Finland, France and Germany some of the countries mooted to step in for the fifteenth round of the series.
