Livia Lancelot started her FIM Ladies World Motocross Championship campaign with a double second place scoreline for Team 114 Kawasaki at Losail in Qatar.

The French lady had claimed pole position during qualification but had to put in a tremendous opening lap in race one to surge into the lead after being hindered leaving the gate and entering the first corner in the pack.

Livia was riding comfortably in the lead for three laps before a single error allowed one of her rivals to pass and she had to settle for second place. She again moved rapidly towards the front in race two to once again defeat the defending champion, but she could not catch the race-long leader and ended the day with second place in both the GP and the championship standings.

“It’s always great to be on the podium of the first Grand Prix,” says Livia Lancelot, “even if I would prefer to be on the top step!

“I got my first pole position for nearly two years, then I had a bad start in the first race but got a good one in the second moto. I was not at my best as I rode tense and had some arm pump, but the season has just started and we have many more races.

“I know what I have to do to get better results, and we also know that the next races will be different – now we’ll train on sandy tracks to prepare for the next round at Valkenswaard.”
