In order to keep China on the 2019 MXGP calendar, Youthstream has been forced into a change for the FIM Motocross World Championship schedule with the round getting shuffled into September.

Due to four months of heavy rain in Shanghai, the inaugural MXGP of China will move from the announced May 1 date to September 15 and becomes Round 18 of the 19-round series.

By our count, this is the fifth change to the 2019 MXGP calendar since the provisional dates were announced last year.

The change of date comes after the official requests of the Chinese National Federation CAMF and the local Organiser to FIM and Youthstream.

An exceptional non-stop period of rain completely blocked the work being carried out at the venue and the forecast for the upcoming weeks is the same, which would have meant a high risk of a cancelled event.

Last weekend, the Deputy Director General, Shanghai Administration of Sports Luo Wenhua and Deputy Mayor, Shanghai Fengxian District People’s Government Yuan Yuan visited the MXGP of Argentina to experience the racing first hand and prepare to host their own round. The delegation toured the facilities and will take valuable information back to Shanghai.
