Ivo Monticelli is having a great week, just days after being named as part of the Team Italy squad for the Assen edition of the Motocross of Nations, Monticelli agreed on a deal with Standing Construct KTM.
Monticelli will continue to contest the FIM Motocross World Championship into 2020 aboard a Standing Construct KTM-powered 450 SX-F. Monticelli joined the Standing Construct KTM team at the start of 2019 and has made an impressive step up in performances, with the highlight of the season coming at his home GP in Trentino where he secured a top-five finish.
After finishing 23rd in his first full season in the MXGP class – back in 2018 – Monticelli has improved beyond recognition in 2019 and is currently in 12th place in the championship.
The focus for now will be the final two rounds of the series in Turkey and China before shifting his attention to the MXoN in the Netherlands.
“I am very happy to continue with Standing Construct KTM,” said the 25-year-old Italian in a press release. “They believed in me, they gave me a chance and allowed me to make big steps this season. The team is very professional, they give me the best possible material and they are very competent people that feel like a family, which is important for me to perform.
“This winter I will stay in Belgium again so that I can prepare for the 2020 season in the heart of motocross where together with the team we hope to make another big step.”
“When we signed Ivo in 2018 there were a lot of people that had questions with this signing,” team boss Tim Mathys said. “I think this year he showed his potential with his fifth place overall at the GP of Trentino and his several top 10 finishes.
“I am convinced that if he works hard in the winter again like he did last year and with the experiences he had this season, Ivo will be able to be regularly inside the top five in 2020.”
