The Michelin MX Nationals had to cancel their planned opening round at FatCat last week after the circuit was hit with a deluge of rainfall just days before the gates were due to drop.

The organisers behind the series showed courage by making an early call to save riders and teams considerable expense travelling to what would have been, at best, a mudfest and at worst, a complete washout.

Today, the MX Nationals team announced new dates for a replacement round on July 8/9. There is no venue to go with the dates – the focus at this early stage was looking at getting the date out there as soon as possible. “It’s important that we announce the date as early as possible,” series manager, Kevin Daniels told Dirt Bike Rider exclusively. “Finding a free date in the calendar is the first big challenge and we were very fortunate to find the July 8/9 weekend.

“It’s not possible to secure a completely free date – firstly, we have to ensure we avoid a clash with other ACU national events. And we have worked hard to avoid as many clashes as possible.

“We are working on two possible venues at the moment and although we want to announce that as soon as possible, we also don’t want to rush it – it needs to be right.”

The newly announced date will now become round four and the opening round now falls to Preston Docks on April 1/2. All the dates for previously announced rounds remain the same. You can see the amended 2017 Michelin MX Nationals schedule below.
