Pro motocross pilot James Dunn has this evening offered an update on his racing plans for this year.

The former Hitachi REVO Husqvarna rider had an injury plagued season in 2016, including a couple of heavy mid-season crashes which resulted in delayed repetitive concussion.

To make matters worse, the luckless rider suffered a bout of glandular fever for good measure – after a strong start, 2016 really was a year to forget for the promising MX2 pilot.

It looked like Dunn had put his injury troubles behind him at the start of the year, stepping into the MVR-D Husqvarna ride vacated by injured Neville Bradshaw after the South African broke his hand at the Glasgow round of the Arenacross Tour back in January.

But since the end of the tour things have been low-key for #200.

Dunn’s name wasn’t on the rider entry list for the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship and was also missing from this weekend’s opening round of the MX Nationals at Preston Docks MX.

Now Dunn has offered an explanation on his absence from outdoor racing and it appears he’s never fully recovered from the tough injury setbacks from last year. He explained on Facebook: “So a little update for everyone who follows my racing. After the Arenacross series finished this year I decided to have some time away from racing.

“Motocross has its ups and downs like any sport; however, staying injury free is always tough for any rider! I have had a handful of injuries over the past few years and after the concussion I sustained last year it took a long time and was very difficult to recover fully.

“Unfortunately, this has put my racing on pause for a while which I am gutted about. However, my love for racing is still huge and I plan to return to race selected events later on this season.

“Racing motocross has not just been a hobby for me at weekends it’s been a lifestyle and has taught me huge life lessons along the way.

“It’s been a long bumpy road so far although I look forward to the next stage!

“See you all at the races soon! #200

“Also, a huge thank you to my family and close friends who have supported me particularly during this time.”
