Jake Nicholls ran out the winner in impressive style at the 2018 Patchquick Trophy at the Little Silver track in Exeter.
Buildbase Honda’s Nicholls looked like he may not have it all his own way with team-mate Josh Gilbert ā clearly riding high on confidence after his recent switch to the team ā qualified two-seconds ahead of Nicholls, but the British MX1 red plate holder would go on to run out the winner in all three motos.
Gilbert would go on to finish each moto in third place to secure second overall.
RFX Crescent Yamaha’s Jake Shipton will look back at this year’s event with a ‘what could have been’ after the two-time winner collected two second-place finishes but a 34th in moto two left him with eighth overall.
Dan Thornhill completed the podium spots with a consistent night of racing with a scorecard of 5-2-4 ā his Cab Screens Honda made it a trio of CRF450Rs for the podium.

What’s next for Jake Nicholls?
Nicholls’ win follows a very successful weekend in Canada at the Popkum round of the Canadian motocross championship where he finished sixth and second to secure a spot on the podium with third overall. Nicholls may go back to Canada later in the season but has confirmed to us that he will compete in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at the RedBud National round on July 7.
Before that, he will line up at the fifth round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship at Desertmartin, Northern Ireland on June 24 with a 19 point lead in the series. He’ll follow that up with the fourth round of the MX Nationals at Sherwood on June 30/July 1 where he will defend his 24 point lead from Elliot Banks-Browne.
