Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team are hoping that Ryan Villopoto will be able to contest this weekend’s Grand Prix of Europe at Valkenswaard in the Netherlands after medical checks this week confirmed four cracks to his coccyx bone.
The American crashed out of the second moto while fighting for third position at the Trentino GP in Italy on Sunday.
Villopoto fell on the fast pit straight section of the Pietramurata circuit and the impact caused damage to his lower back, a part of the body that is notoriously difficult to heal. Doctors have advised that the 27 year old will just have to bear the pain.
RV and the team will evaluate his condition this week and he is tentatively planning to participate in the fifth round of 18 in the MXGP series this weekend.
Update: KRT team manager, François Lemariey said in a press release this evening: “The doctors told him that there is no risk of further injury if he rides his bike, but of course it will be painful. We don’t want to put any pressure; Ryan will do a test and then we’ll take a decision for this weekend.”

Tyla Rattray, also injured last weekend, will definitely be riding his KX450F-SR factory Kawasaki at the Dutch track. “Tyla also had examinations and he is OK; he crashed pretty hard on his head but he has no pain. He does have a painful shoulder, and he had some laser treatment this week to speed up the healing process. He will ride his bike tomorrow (Thursday) to prepare the GP,” added the KRT manager.
Monster Energy KRT will have an official 2015 presentation event for media this Friday at their workshop near Eindhoven.
