Jeffrey Herlings just about avoided history repeating itself at the opening round of the Internazionali d’Italia Motocross in Riola Sardo after an early crash in the deep sand in Sardinia, which at first glance looked very bad news for the Dutchman.

Herlings collided with several riders entering the first corner of the MX1 sprint and crashed heavily ā€“ fortunately, the only damage is bruising to his back and some grazing.

“The crash wasn’t too bad but getting run over wasn’t much fun,” declared Herlings. “I was lucky that it wasn’t too bad but the bike was pretty damaged so that meant it wasn’t possible to continue.

“A shame we couldn’t race ā€“ at least this is an upgrade from this time last year when we came away with a broken hand! Aside from today, I’m feeling good with the bike and we’ll go again next week.”

Team-mate Tony Cairoli was in impressive form winning both the MX1 moto and the Super-final outing.
