What a day for Shaun Simpson at Desertmartin…and not in a good way!

Shaun has spent four weeks working on the recovery from his broken hand suffered at Blaxhall ā€“ the previous British championship round ā€“ and evidently this is now up to a working strength though there is still some way to go.

The team have also been working hard on Simmoā€™s starts, which paid dividends on Sunday for the Desertmartin round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship.

Simpson was fastest in qualifying and was also leading both motos on the fantastic Northern Ireland sand circuit…then two DNFs.

The RFX KTM team haven’t got to the source of the mechanical failures yet but there is no doubt the Simpson challenge for the Maxxis championship has been dented by the loss of 50 points.

The team say they now have to find and solve the problem and roll up their sleeves for round six. “Until the flag drops at the end of the final race…the battle is still on,” said the team in a press release.

On the flip-side ā€“ fresh from the German Grand Prix, Nathan Dixon started slowly in qualifying and gathered speed, taking ninth in moto-one and seventh in moto-two for a solid sixth overall.

A 10th and 12th was Syd Putnam’ s reward for his efforts in the supporting 85cc races, while brother Charlie snatched 16th in moto-two after a moto-one ride just outside the points.

Our next event will be round six of the Maxxis at Hawkstone Park in three weekā€™s time.
