A series of innovative changes will result in a box-fresh 2018 Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship supported by Pro Clean.
With the 2018 calendar almost finalised, Series Manager Stuart Drummond has unveiled new-look British Two-stroke Championship and MXY2 series designed to attract increased entries, give spectators even more value for money and carry the momentum from this yearās fantastic final round at Foxhill into next season.
The MXY2 championship will again run alongside the full Maxxis series over five rounds but for 2018 there will be three 16-minute plus one lap races per round. In addition, after the initial qualification session gate-pick for MXY2 will then be decided by a riderās previous race result.
After its successful debut season in 2017, the British Two-stroke Championship has been extended to five rounds with two 20-minute plus two lap races per round and to accommodate this there will be two double-header rounds where the MXY2 and B2S classes will join the main MX1 and MX2 fields.
To help tighten-up the schedule, next season all classes will have start practice before their full practice session.
āThe ACU Motocross Committee and ACU Events have looked long and hard at ways to improve the championship for 2018,” says Series Manager Stuart Drummond. “By giving the MXY2 class an extra race we feel we will encourage more entries and more points up for grabs should help to elevate the already high standard of racing.
“I was blown away by how popular the British Two-stroke Championship was in its debut season so itās a no-brainer to give them an extra round and weāve put a lot of thought into which classes go to which venues.”
After kicking off at Lyng on March 11 the championship will travel to Culham Moto Park over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend for the new British Motocross Championship Festival which will see the Judd Racing British Youth Nationals get the ball rolling on the Friday and the Saturday before the Maxxis big-hitters swing into action on Easter Sunday.
“Weāve been working very closely with RHL Activities to make this possible,” adds Stuart. “It promises to be a great three days of motocross which will complement the changes weāve made to the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship for next year.”
