Sunshine greeted nearly 160 riders as the Woodbridge and DMCC hosted their first motocross meeting of the 2013 season at Blaxhall. The circuit was in perfect condition when the practice sessions began in the morning. The meeting featured two mixed classes of Experts and Junior, along with a 2 stroke only class and a round of the NGR Championship.
After the practice sessions had finished it was time for the first block of racing. First out on track was the A Group and it was British Championship rider Ryan Houghton who stormed to a race win by over 2o seconds ahead of Luke Benstead and Matt Bayliss in third. Fourth and fifth places went to Chris Bayliss and Brad Tomlin.
The next race up was the opening NGR race of the day and it was former Expert Tim Clark who took the race win over Mark Hunt in second place and Luke Dowsing in third. Fourth and fifth places went to Adam Gordon and Paul Hubbard. The first B Group race of the day saw John Bavin take the race win ahead of Liam Gill and David Bavin. Fourth and fifth places went to Chris Freeman and Ian Parker.
The last race of the first block was the 2 stroke class, which featured a guest rider, club member and GP podium star Jake Nicholls on a 125cc KTM. As the gate dropped, Nicholls gave the rest of the field a head start and play catch up. At the front of the field Steve Bixby was leading the way, ahead of Syd Bales. As the race went on Nicholls worked his way up the order and by the finish flag had got into second place behind Bixby. Third place went to Syd Bales with Jason Morland and Lewis Houghton rounding out the top 5.
After the lunch break it was time for the second A group race of the day. This time round it Luke Benstead that took the race win ahead of Steve Bixby and Matt Bayliss. Fourth and fifth places went to Shaun Southgate and Chris Bayliss.
The second NGR race of the day saw a switch of position between the front two with Mark Hunt taking the win over Tim Clark and Luke Dowsing in third. Fourth and fifth places went to Adam Gordon and Jake Morphey.
The second B group race of the day saw Will Nice take the race win ahead of John Bavin and Ian Parker in third place. Fourth and fifth places went to David Bavin and Jamie Lagden.
The second 2 Stroke race of the again saw Jake Nicholls give the field a head start going into the first lap. Bixby again led the early race ahead of the charging Syd Bales and Jason Morland. Nicholls eventually worked his way into the lead and took the race win by over 30 seconds from Bixby and Bales. Fourth place went to Morland with Lewis Houghton in fifth place.
After another short break it was time for the final block of racing. The last A group race of the day saw Luke Benstead take another fantastic start to finish race win ahead of Matt Bayliss and Steve Bixby. Fourth and fifth places went to Brad Tomlin and Shaun Southgate.
The last NGR race saw Tom Clark and Mark Hunt battle all race long for the race win and the overall. This time round it was Tim Clark that took the race win with Hunt in second and Dowsing in third. The fourth and fifth places went to Adam Gordon and Paul Hubbard.
The third and final B group race saw Will Nice take another race win ahead of Ian Parker and Aaron Smith. The fourth and fifth places went to Shaun Wells and John Bavin.
The final race of the day was the third and final 2 Stroke race and this time it was Syd Bales that took the early race lead ahead of Steve Bixby. Nicholls again worked his way forward and was quickly into the top 5. The GP star soon worked his way to the front and took the race win. The race was unfortunately cut short after a Red Flag was shown when Ollie Stearn crashed and broke his leg. The result stood with Nicholls taking the win over Bales, and Bixby with Houghton and Morland making up the top 5.
