Cairoli and Herlings gun down the competition in Gaudalajara…
While it won’t go down in history as one of the all-time great GPs the Mexican round of the championship still counts for points towards this year’s world championship which is good news for KTM teamsters Tony Cairoli and Jeffery Herlings who win on the day and therefore increase their series leads…
For Herlings everything is perfect as he runs 1-1 while big rival Tommy Searle’s slowed by sandy conditions and out of control backmarkers. Our battling Brit still steers home his Kawasaki in the runner-up spot twice though while Herlings’ team-mate The Jerre – Jeremy van Horebeek – runs 3-3 for third overall. T’other Brits in the MX2 class Jake Nicholls and Max Anstie both make it inside the top 10 too. The Reverend runs 10-6 for seventh overall while Max Anstie – who’s the only European rider to race Saturday’s qualification heat – grabs eighth with 8-9 results on the Gariboldi Honda.
In MX1 it’s Cairoli takes another overall win with a 1-3 scorecard beating Clement Desalle who finishes second both times out. The big surprise comes from David Philippaerts who ends his win drought with a second moto victory and rocks up on the podium for the first time in a long time. The Brits abroad have a bad ‘un with both Shaun Simpson and birthday boy Nathan Parker picking up injuries in separate first moto crashes – a dislocated shoulder for Woody and a so far undisclosed foot injury for Nez.
