It has been reported in Spain that a landowner in Madrid fell foul of the law when he started to build a private motocross track in a protected area.

In 2011 Hugo Arriazu started work on a motocross track for his son on private land in the eastern foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama.

The protected status was reversed in 2014 but that hasn’t helped the landowners case. He has been handed a four year sentence, ordered to restore the land and fined 50,000 euros.

Spanish News Today reports that Arriazu believes he has been victimised and that while admitting his guilt in theory, is upset at the severity of the punishment.
