A press release from KTM today confirms that the company are recalling specific frame numbers of the 2016 250 SX-F and 250 SX-F Factory Edition models.

Those of a matching frame number will have a complete crankshaft replacement at an authorised KTM dealer.

After KTM carried out market investigations they found that deviations in the manufacturing process of the connecting rod may result in early failure and fracturing of the conrod under certain load conditions.

The news comes just days after Husqvarna announced an almost identical recall. Our own 2016 Husky long-term tester was recently collected from us and then subsequently returned with no explanation.

Does this affect me?

This recall is valid for all markets so it’s worldwide, but it’s only for specific frame numbers on the models mentioned above. Customers of affected and already distributed motorcycles are being informed by a personal letter. DBR can confirm that letters have already started to arrive with customers.

The Austrian-based firm ask customers to immediately contact an authorised KTM dealer to arrange an appointment for replacement. In addition, customers can check online in the ‘Service’ area of the KTM website to determine if their motorcycle is affected by this recall.

What will it cost?

Replacement crankshaft work will be carried out at no cost to motorcycle owners, but must be performed by authorised KTM dealers only.
