Former British champion Kristian Whatley will race the Be Wiser Insurance Hawkstone International it has been announced today.
Rob Hooper Racing is the first major British team to sign up for the famous International motocross event, which is set for Sunday, February 11.
Whatley’s team-mates Ryan Houghton and Robbie Dowson are also set to compete at the Shropshire circuit.
Whatley’s comeback
It will be a return to competition for Whatley following a lengthy 2017 injury layoff.
Racing in the ACU British Motocross Championship third round at Canada Heights in April this year, Whatley was running around fifth place in the opening MX1 moto when he went off the track, hitting the fencing and coming to a sudden halt.
That horrendous crash left Whatley with a broken femur and destroyed his 2017 season. He’s now very much looking forward to 2018. “I’m excited to get racing again and back into the motions of it all,” says Whatley. “Obviously I’ve been out for six months due to a broken femur that was more complicated than anyone hoped!
“Everything is coming on good now and I’m keen to get back into the swing of things.
“It’ll be an interesting one to see where I am with the bike and my fitness. Hawkstone is always a great event and I look forward to racing there.”
Hawkstone International is a must for any motocross fan. It’s the first chance to check out new team line-ups and opportunity to see which riders have put in the hard work during the off-season ā and perhaps who hasn’t!
