Jonny Walker has made a winning start to his indoor enduro
season, taking overall victory at the UK’s Extreme Enduro Indoor
– the first major race held before the start of the SuperEnduro
World Championship.
Held inside the Stafford County Showground the event featured a three-race format similar to world championship rounds. On a fast and flowing track Walker made the best of three good starts to claim two race wins and one runner-up result.
Taking the lead early in races one and two the KTM rider never looked back. Continuing to deliver consistently fast lap times he secured two comfortable victories.
Facing stiff competition throughout the evening from his KTM team-mate Taddy Blazusiak, the battle between the two worldclass riders went down to the wire in race three. Despite a last lap mistake from Blazusiak, Walker wasn’t quite able to claim the win. But in finishing second Jonny secured the overall win.
Walker will now resume his preparations ahead of the start of the 2016 SuperEnduro season, which starts in Lodz, Poland on December 5.
Jonny Walker said: “It’s only two weeks since I started training for indoor enduro so to get a winning result is great. I got three great starts here, which made things easier. It didn’t take that long to get into the lead in the first two races. I managed to pull away and get two wins. The last race was more intense. At the end we came close with Taddy but he managed to pull out the victory. Overall it’s been a good night. We have five weeks to the opening round of the SuperEnduro series so there’s time to improve things. It’s going to be a long season and I’m looking forward to it.”
