Steel Hawk Motorcycle Club’s have announced the inaugural Helter Skelter Hillclimb event will be returning in full force for 2022.

The venue will again be the beautiful Court Farm, Buckland Newton with the confirmed date of Saturday 11th June.

Blessed with gorgeous weather and a chilled out vibe, the first running of the ‘Helter Skelter Hillclimb’ went down a storm amongst competitors and spectators alike and that’s something the ‘Steel Hawk Motorcycle Club’ team of Julie Coyne, Paul Oughton and Jeff Perrett really want to expand on as Jeff explains.

“As much as we were excited when we come up with the concept for Helter Skelter, we were never really sure if it was actually going to work! We knew racing bikes up a hill works but racing them back down giant slalom style with five in a race we weren’t so sure about. After the initial practice runs and feedback we got from the riders and the smile on their faces we knew right there and then we had something we could build on and that’s what we’ll now be doing. As far as we’re concerned the ‘Helter Skelter Hillclimb’ is here to stay for many years to come and we’re pleased to announce our commitment to that.”

“We’ve had incredible support from the landowners and I’m happy to say they share our vision for the event. Not only have Martin, Elaine, Brad and Alanna been kind enough to offer up a beautiful setting for the event, they’ve also helped us with ideas, machinery and time. We are honoured to have their family run Buckland Newton Hire business as title event partners and work with them on this event going forward to make it the best we can. They’re a motorcycling family through and through so they all understand what we’re trying to achieve with this event, and that is to make it as professional, fun and chilled out as we possibly can.”

“For 2022 we’ll be making it more of a festival feel and adding some evening entertainment in the form of some minibike and moped dirt track racing if there’s enough of them that survive the Hillclimb that is! We’ll also be having some live music to wrap up what we hope will be a really good day out for all the family. That’s the beauty of the ‘Helter Skelter Hillclimb’ it’s easy to follow with a simple concept. Five riders race up a hill and come rattling back down in short races that come thick and fast and it’s all right there in front of you. I didn’t ride this year’s event for the obvious reason of it being our first running of the event, but I’ll definitely be lining up in the moped class next year and taking on the hill. It’s too much fun not to! We’re all really looking forward to getting to work on next year’s event and will be announcing more detailed plans over the next few months. I’ll also be keeping an eye out for a hillbilly moped!”
