Former British motocross champion Graeme Irwin has been talking to BBC Sport about his injury and recovery progress.
Irwin was speaking from the SSE Arena in Belfast ahead of the Arenacross series kicking off on Friday night.
On his British championship preparation, the Hitachi/Milwaukee KTM rider told the BBC he is cleared to now do physio work and is waiting to be strong enough to get back on the bike. “If I can start riding in three to four weeks and then get championship-ready within the next four weeks I might make round one,” he said in the interview.
Irwin was injured during the second race at the MXGP of Italy in September which left him needing surgery on his right wrist. Not only did that rule him out of any chance of retaining the British MX1 title, he subsequently missed the MXoN at RedBud with Team Ireland.
His recovery period means he’ll miss the pre-season internationals and the opening round of the FIM Motocross World Championship in Argentina on March 3. The 2019 Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship gets underway on March 10 at FatCat.
