One of the world’s brightest young racing talents will make his Hawkstone Park debut this weekend when round six of the Red Bull Pro Nationals rolls up at the famous Shropshire venue on August 31/September 1.
At just 15 years of age, Davy Pootjes will jump in at the deep end in the Rookie class of the Red Bull Elite Youth Cup. Contested by riders up to four years older than him, the Dutch flier will need to bring his A game to Hawkstone. But what an A game he has!
Last year’s EMX85cc champion, Davy’s no stranger to the Red Bull Pro Nationals having dominated his class with three wins from three when we visited Mill for a one-off event in 2012.
Since then he’s moved up to a 125cc machine and has already posted a string of impressive results on his Hannamax Red Bull KTM. In the recent junior world 125cc championship at Jinin in the Czech Republic he ran 19-3 for ninth overall and was eighth in the EMX125cc class at Matterley Basin after suffering from bad starts. He now sits seventh in the series despite missing the first two rounds of the season.
So what can we expect from the rapid Rookie at Hawkstone Park? Well, his Dutch heritage means it’s a given that he goes well in sand but it might be expecting a little too much to expect him to challenge the likes of 18-year-olds Dan Thornhill and James Harrison for the win.
But, then again, this is Motocross…
