There’s action aplenty at the opening round of the UK Short Track championship at Oxford…

The opening round of the Pozzani Grand National UK short track championship roars into life at Oxford speedway stadium on Friday night with a win for defending champion – HM Plant Honda’s – Aidan Collins. Although it’s Collins who takes the main event win he has his hands full all evening with guest racer Tyson Nelson who keeps Collins and the short track regulars on their toes.

A selection of heats, semis and a consolation final – that’s won by The Godfather Pete Boast – whittles down the 36 racers to 12 for the points-payer. After first turn bunching and a consequent crash causes a restart it’s Collins who grabs the holeshot with Nelson right in there too. For the next 15 laps the Aussie speedway star hounds the Brit but a perfect ride by Collins sees him take the chequered flag out ahead of Nelson and Italian stallion Jacapo Monti.
