The Drumclog circuit near Strathaven in South Lanarkshire was due to host the seventh round of eight of the 2014 Maxxis British Motocross Championship on August 10. But we have learned today from a reliable source that Drumclog has now been dropped from this year’s calendar.
As with any venue that is scheduled to hold a round of the premier British motocross series, certain standards for teams, riders and fans need to be met and that work has to be started well in advance of the event.
It has been suggested to us that the organiser of the round has been unavailable for some time, which may have caused some concern within ACU Events.
The ACU carried out a site inspection last week and apparently it quickly became clear that the venue was not going to meet the high standards that are expected and that there would not be enough time to bring the site up to the required level by August 10.
We understand that the ACU were left with no choice but to withdraw the contract from the promoter of the event. However, the August round will still go ahead and the ACU are in the process of securing a suitable venue. The new host for round seven is expected to be released in the next week.
We will update here once we have had an official statement from ACU Events.
Update: We have received a short comment from Series Manager, Brian Higgins.
“Whilst the landowner at Drumclog was willing for the event to take place the timescale of the lead up to the event for the required work to be completed we were not confident that the required standards would be met.”
