There is still a chance that MXGP could make three trips to South America this year with representatives of the state of Santa Catarina in Brazil and powers-that-be connected to theme park Beto Carrero keen to keep the 15th round of the 2015 series in the country and on the August 16 date.
Youthstream have given the Brazilians more time than originally scheduled to put the foundations of the Grand Prix just north of Florianopolis into place after the Romagnolli group cancelled their effort in Goiania earlier this year. MXGP has visited Beto Carrero for the last three years.
The promoters have been busy sourcing others circuit for the fixture in Europe if the trip across the Atlantic cannot occur. Another venue in France was considered but with the French GP on May 31 and the Motocross of Nations at Ernee on September 27 then the country is already laden with heavy motocross fixtures.
There seemed to be strong rumours in Holland last weekend about a return to the sandy, city-centre location of Mantova with the date pushed back to August 23 for what would be the third Grand Prix in Italy and capitalising on the surging popularity in the sport at this current time. An announcement should be due before the Grand Prix of Spain next week.
Mantova last entertained MXGP back in 2010.
