The venue for the opening round of the 2019 Apico 2-Stroke Festival, scheduled for May 25-26, has been switched from Marshfield to Sellindge MX in Kent.

Organiser Dave Willet was left with little choice after a lack of entries, despite healthy numbers of riders registering for the series. ā€œItā€™s frustrating,ā€ he said.

ā€œWe have plenty of registrations for the series but they havenā€™t all converted into actual bookings for Marshfield.

“Personally, Iā€™m gutted as I really wanted to take the festival to Marshfield ā€“ the circuit has been revamped to a high spec and itā€™s looking prime.

“It appears that there are a number of other racing events in the locality over the same weekend and I think that has impacted on our numbers.

ā€œItā€™s great that riders are registering, however, if they donā€™t follow up that registration and book in then ā€“ as in this instance ā€“ we are left in a vulnerable situation.

“Unfortunately, itā€™s just not viable for us to run at Marshfield as the numbers donā€™t stack up.

“I canā€™t stress how much it saddens me to switch at this stage.

“As a racer myself, I do understand the inconvenience caused by late changes. Itā€™s not a decision Iā€™ve taken lightly.

ā€œIā€™ve been in contact with those already booked in and no-one should be out of pocket. Sellindge is a superbly-prepped track and is a great catchment area for racing talent. Itā€™s already on target to be a well-supported and well-attended event, fitting for the status of the series and its valued sponsors.ā€

Thereā€™s now an even bigger incentive for two-stroke enthusiasts to get on board and register for the series. Red Bull is supporting the series by backing two action-packed days for two-stroke riders only and theyā€™ll be free to all registered riders.
