The Italian team for the 2016 Motocross of Nations has been announced and fans of Tony Cairoli can rejoice as the eight-time world champion is back in the team after missing last year’s event. TC222 will captain the team and compete in MXGP.

Michele Cervellin and Samuele Bernardini are once again included in Team Italy – Cervellin will take on the Open class, while Bernardini runs in MX2.

It’s been a while since Italy last won, 2002, to be precise. But they have been consistent since 2006, finishing comfortably inside the top 10, with the exception of 2011 and last year. They last made the podium in 2013, when they took third place behind the US and Belgium. Team Italy struggled last year in France, finishing 14th, so the Italian fans will be hopeful that the returning former champion will help drive them on at their home circuit of Maggiora on September 25.
