Ryan Villopoto could be about to make a comeback to racing at the end of this month but it may not be what you expect.
Last week the lifelong Kawasaki man ā who recently and controversially made a switch to brand ambassador for Yamaha ā posted to Instagram an image of him riding his brand new Yamaha YZ450F with the message: “Out at Glen Helen for a little photo shoot and to get ready for a race I am doing at the end of the month!!! Details coming soon on where and what I am racing!!” (emphasis is ours).
So he’s already admitted he’s going to race somewhere but could it be that it’s not actually going to be on two wheels! His latest post shows the multi-time supercross and motocross champion on a snowbike. Yep, a snowbike! Not running with his legendary #2 but with #44 (obviously a big fan of Elliott Banks-Browne).
He didn’t offer any explanation but it’s a curious coincidence that he’s mentioned a return to racing at the end of the month and shown himself in action on a snowbike…and that the Aspen X Games are at the end of this month.
X Games Aspen gets underway on January 25 with the Snow BikeCross racing on the 27th.
What do you think? Are we bang on the money with this or are we way off base? It’s certainly an interesting way to get Villopoto to line up again but with Yamaha machinery underneath him.
