At last weekend’s MXGP of Trentino, Clement Desalle was handicapped by injuries to his wrist and knee that had been sustained during recent GPs, now with an extended break in the MXGP calendar, the Monster Energy Kawasaki star has taken the decision to undergo surgery.
“Unfortunately I hurt my knee (meniscus) in Valkenswaard without crashing,” Desalle revealed on social media. “I knew that Italy will be really difficult but I tried at least for few points. I had a small surgery today on plan. The positive thing is that this injury can go fast and that is five weeks without racing. So I have a plan already to recover and work hard to be there stronger to the next one.
“Thanks to my Dr, full team, family, sponsors, physio, supporters… who are behind me all the time.”
Unable to train during the week Desalle qualified in 16th on Saturday and battling against the pain, the 29-year-old finished 12th in the opening moto on Sunday but was forced to withdraw from race two after falling on the opening lap.
The Belgian has now slipped from third to sixth in the series standings.
