Evgeny Bobryshev shows his Russian toughness in Markelo

After the cancellation of round one of the Maxxis British Motocross championship due to adverse weather and track conditions a handful of riders chose to travel to continental Europe in order to race at the prestigious Dutch Masters of Motocross event. Evgeny Bobryshev was one of the men that refused to take a weekend off.

After flying back from Argentina in the week the Russian decided to utilise the opportunity at Markelo as a vital day of testing with his BOS GP team.

The race didn’t quite go according to plan however. After a solid qualifying effort, posting the fourth fastest time, Bobryshev suffered a couple of mishaps in race one. The second of which was a scary crash that sidelined the BOS GP pilot for the remainder of the race and left him with a black eye.

However, Bobryshev displayed his Russian toughness to complete the day on two wheels as he claimed seventh place in race two behind a who’s who of his MXGP colleagues. His non-score in moto one combined with his top-10 result in race two meant that Bobryshev walked away with 12th overall on the day.

Despite this result and the fact that he’s feeling a little second hand after his crash Evgeny is as positive as ever, focusing on taking the good from the day and looking forward to more testing with the BOS GP team ahead of round two of the MXGP world championship at Valkenswaard this weekend.

“I had an up and down day yesterday,” he said. “I had a good qualifying, I was fourth in timed practice. I had a good start in the first race, running in the top five, but I hit the first corner pinned and spun around. That put me dead last on the first lap. I managed to come through to the top 10 but then I had a massive crash on I think lap four. I went down pretty hard and I hurt myself a little, I damaged my eye, so I have a black eye right now. I had to pull out of the race because the bike was damaged, and I was hurting a little bit.

“I came back for the second race and was feeling a little better. I had another top-five start, but then I made a few mistakes. I wasn’t feeling so comfortable, so I dropped back to seventh after a couple of mistakes. But that’s okay, for me the important thing on the day was to collect good data and find a good set up for the bike ready for the next GP at Valkenswaard.

“We are still building my confidence on the bike so it was a good day of testing and a good day of learning the information we need to improve.

“We have a day testing with the team this week, I’m really looking forward to that and I hope to find a good set up ready for Valkenswaard so I can be more comfortable. Once I find that I can find more speed and more flow on the bike.”
