Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Romain Febvre crashed on Saturday during the MXGP qualifying race at Matterley Basin.
Febvre was his usual hard charging self in the Quali race, coming from the back of the pack to inside the top 20 in the first lap. He continued to make impressive progress until he caught the back of Ben Townley’s Suzuki and face-planted hard.
The Frenchman was examined on site by medical personnel and transported immediately to University Hospital Southampton where he underwent further investigation and treatment.
Yamaha Racing say that doctors at the hospital performed a CT scan and x-rays on his cervical spine and limbs and diagnosed the 24-year-old with a head injury and a fractured right middle finger before releasing him from urgent care.
The MXGP champion will consult with team staff and FIM medical personnel on Sunday to determine his next steps at the MXGP of Great Britain.
