Petar Petrov shreds FatCat on his way to MX2 overall victory but it’s not enough to save title for Anstie
After winning 15 of the previous 20 motos in the series (he missed the opening round through injury) Anstie held a 45 point lead prior to the final round but unfortunately the Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki rider was unable to compete after his crash at Ernée one week earlier, where he suffered fractures of the T3 vertebra and scapula.
Petar Petrov of the Monster Energy Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team and Maxime Desprey of Monster Energy Kawasaki Bud Racing were additional entries, while DRT’s Steve Dixon entered American Darian Sanayei to further aid Max’s chances.
Having scored several great results on the sandy tracks of the Dutch series this season, Petrov ended his first season with Monster Energy Kawasaki to take the overall victory with three strong rides of 1-3-7 moto results despite losing much time at the start of the second and third races when other riders crashed in front of him.
Anstie eventually lost the British title by nine points but he had his best season so far on the Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki to take third in the world with nine moto victories. The next race this season for a Monster Energy Kawasaki rider will be the Paris-Lille Supercross, where Dylan Ferrandis will make his comeback from a knee injury.
“It was a good day,” said Petar Petrov. “It started well already in timed practice as I was fastest. In the first race my start was not great but I still manage to win, then in the second moto I had a really bad start and I had some trouble with guys crashing and me being in the wrong place at the wrong time, but I still pushed and came back third.
“Then in the third moto I had a good start but one guy crashed in front of me and some other riders also so I was stuck between bikes and came from last to seventh. That was good enough to win overall and I’m happy even though I would have liked to go 1-1-1. But it is what it is and now it’s time to rest and prepare for 2016.”
