It’s always good news when we hear about the opening of a fresh new motocross facility, so when newly-opened Seven 2 Motoparc invited us down for a Track Attack Special with Apico Husqvarna pro rider Steven Clarke we were all over it.
Seven 2 Motoparc is situated on the Welsh/ Shropshire border just outside Llanymynech and it’s only a few weeks old, yet it’s already attracted serious attention thanks to its flowing and innovative design.
The track is naturally quite silty as it is situated alongside the river Vyrnwy in a picturesque part of deep rural countryside. The open space makes it a perfect track for spectators and the design makes it an exciting track to view, too.
What’s more is that the unique ‘book-in’ design (via Facebook or mobile) means you’ll be sharing the track with no more than 40 other riders. This makes it ideal practice for both the speedy pros and cautious novices alike. Together with a ripped and watered track as standard, this creates a pretty cool combination!
The track owner, Joe Cad takes pride in a track which is safe and fit for purpose. “There’s a mixture of table-tops, rollers, whoops, berms and ski-jumps which are there to help riders practice everything they’d normally hit on a motocross track,” said Joe.
The track can boast the fact that it was built by Justin Barclay, one of the world’s finest track builders. “His standards are extremely high. He’s done many GP and supercross tracks, so we were sure he’d be able to build something special,” opined Joe. “We had ideas for the track, but when Justin first arrived we knew we were in capable hands as he said ‘leave it to me, I’m an artist!’ “
We can’t disagree here at DBR; you’ll see from the aerial shots that this track is an artistic masterpiece.
Since the track was fully built, Joe has initiated the idea that Seven 2 Motoparc should be used for coaching. “So far we’ve had RMJ, Justin Morris and Danny Tollet use the track with their riders. They usually private hire, but we also give the flexibility to have private sessions during a public open day so they can also work with riders then.” This means that it makes it flexible for riders and coaches alike, if riders are struggling to get to the track on certain days.
For the moment, the track only opens during the week, with practice for the public on Wednesdays (10am – 4pm) and the option for private hire or coaching on the other days. Watch this space though as Seven 2 plan to open on weekends through the winter months.
One of the few negative points is that the track doesn’t host an on-site spares shop or catering van, which means you’ll need to remember to throw in your spares in case of the odd breakdown (don’t forget the trusty butty’s either). Trust us, when the track is prime you won’t want to have to call it a day early!
Steven Clarke’s Verdict
Thanks to Steven Clarke and his trusty Apico Husqvarna, we’re able to give a pro’s account of how the track rides.
“Seven 2 Motoparc is a flowing, rhythmic track and I think it’ll suit everyone,” commented Steven Clarke. “They’ve got cool big jumps but they’re nice and mellow, so nothing’s do-or-die! It’s certainly a well-rounded track. I like the fact it has a really good selection of switch backs too, although some bigger berms on the outside might open up more lines through the corners.”
