Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube’s Romain Febvre has had a career-defining season so far and it looks set to be crowned with a Motocross of Nations debut for Team France on home turf at Ernee at the end of September.
The 23-year-old joined principal rival for the 2015 MXGP crown, Gautier Paulin, with team back-up riders Steven Frossard and Benoit Paturel for riding/bonding session last week at the same venue of the 69th edition of the annual competition. The two MXGP athletes will be joined by Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin as the first trio on the roster for the defending champions.
For Febvre, who holds an 84 point lead over Paulin in his first season in the premier class of the FIM Motocross World Championship and can wrap up a sensational title win in the space of the next two weeks and before MXGP heads overseas for a finale in Mexico and USA, the focus on Ernee was not a distraction from the job at hand. “The end of the season is coming near but I am trying to ride like always and not think of the championship. We will see when it will be possible to win!”

If Febvre can be the first French world champion since Marvin Musquin in 2010 then he will have to deal with another pressure cooker at Ernee where the circuit and promoters Youthstream are expecting a capacity crowd to supersede that of the memorable 2005 edition. “For sure it will be awesome,” commented Febvre. “And everybody knows that the French crowd is amazing. The team won last year so people will be expecting the same again. Whatever happens I’ll not change anything about the way I go racing and will really look forward to that one.”
